The Encyclopedia of Azerbaijani Carpet is dedicated to traditions and special techniques of Azerbaijani carpet weaving. The author of the book is Roya Tagiyeva, Doctor of Art History, Professor, Honoured Cultural Figure of Azerbaijan, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Turkic World, Chairman of the Azerbaijani Carpet Makers’ Union. Her works exhibit a profound understanding of the carpet-weaving process, its philosophy, and its inextricable links to global culture. Roya Tagiyeva’s scientific works have not previously been translated into Russian, which limited access to them for a wide range of researchers. Now, they are available to a multi-million Russian-speaking audience. Intersputnik intends to distribute the book to leading libraries and industry organisations of the Russian Federation, as well as to colleagues from the Organization’s Member States.
The book was presented at the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum in Baku as part of the industry capacity building seminar Orbital Synergy: Global Perspectives on Space Connectivity held for the attendees from Azerbaijan and other ITU and Intersputnik Member States. Other cultural initiatives of Intersputnik include the publishing of the gift album Colorful Universe: National Traditions and Crafts that presents national crafts and traditions of the Organization’s Member States in 2024 and exhibitions of young artists from Azerbaijan (Vusalya Yunusova and Ali Gaffarli), Cuba (Lorenzo Prieto Garcia) and Laos (Phoutsany Sengthavy and Anogkham Angkham), which took place in 2023-2025. The common theme to all the artists’ works was space as a philosophy and as a universal environment, which human beings belong to.
Intersputnik considers the promotion of humanitarian values of the Organization’s Member States and the development of cultural relations between them to be one of its paramount missions. This area is one of the main components of the Youth Far Beyond Borders program implemented by Intersputnik, under which young professional from the Organization’s Member States promote their projects, receive additional education, and participate in key events of the space industry. Intersputnik considers the comprehensive development of industry youth as the most important factor for their effective work in the satellite industry. Knowledge of the cultural heritage and traditions of one’s own country and partner countries is essential for any professional not only in the field of satellite communications, but also in the broader field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). This creates the foundation for better mutual understanding and successful international cooperation.
Intersputnik plans to continue the active support of various creative projects that promote the cultural and ethnic identities, national customs and traditions of its Member States.
