The trilateral meeting participants discussed the opportunities of expanding cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and international organisations, Intersputnik and ITU, on capacity building in the field of space communications, including regulation of radio frequency spectrum usage for satellite communications and broadcasting networks.
The first successful example of such trilateral cooperation was the seminar “Space communications activities in today's world: opportunities, innovations and future”. The event was held on 1 February 2025 as part of Digital Almaty 2025, the largest forum in Central Asia on innovations and advanced technologies that determine the future of digital transformation in key sectors of economy.
During the meeting the parties highlighted the importance of such events to exchange experience and develop competencies in the field of satellite communications, one of the most dynamically developing and in-demand sectors in Kazakhstan. The meeting participants also declared their intention to expand cooperation in this direction in future.
For Intersputnik, it is essential to strengthen cooperation with Member States and to maximum promote the human and technical capacity building in the field of satellite communications, as well as to provide professionals with access to up-to-date information on global processes taking place in the industry. In this regard, the Organization plans to further develop this initiative in Central Asia and other regions of the world.
During the seminar, which was hosted by the International University of Information Technology (IUIT) of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ksenia Drozdova and Natalia Mochu met with its rector Asylbek Isakhov and representatives of the teaching staff. Deputy Chairman of the Telecommunications Committee of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhaksylyk Ibragimov also took part in the meeting. The parties highlighted the importance and contribution of higher education institutions to employees’ training for the telecommunications industry. They discussed the need to combine students’ deep theoretical knowledge with practical skills, to organise exchange of experience, and to hold meetings between industry leaders, students, and young professionals. Ksenia Drozdova and Natalia Mochu emphasised that Intersputnik and ITU, as international organisations, actively cooperate with universities in implementing their youth programmes and projects.
The topics discussed by Intersputnik, ITU and the Kazakhstan side are extremely relevant, since the Republic of Kazakhstan has been actively implementing its space programme and successfully developing satellite communication systems for the benefit of various sectors of economy. Besides that, satellite technologies are of crucial importance for the development of Kazakhstan's communications infrastructure aimed at the implementation of relevant digital services and elimination of the digital divide.
