The topics presented, discussed and debated at the forum covered the evolution of space communications services market, including further development of geostationary and non-geostationary orbits; integrated use of near-Earth space –convergence of remote sensing systems and satellite communications; development, including commercial one, of manned spaceflight; lunar projects, orbital and interplanetary logistics and much more. Important related issues were also actively discussed: use of artificial intelligence for orchestration of multi-satellite constellations, edge computing in space and sustainability of space activities.

The forum brought together representatives of most countries cooperating or planning to develop cooperation with Kazakhstan in the areas of satellite construction, development of space services and applications, including services for launching satellites into orbit from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The forum guests also went on guided tours to Assy-Turgen Astronomical Observatory in Almaty and the spaceport. At the event Intersputnik noted the particularly constructive and positive tone of the discussions, the focus of all players on achieving true results from effective and equitable international cooperation.

Kazakhstan has been actively implementing national space projects and is one of the leading regional players in the satellite communications market. Furthermore, Kazakhstan is the first Central Asian country to launch its own geostationary communications satellite. Since 2006, Kazakhstan has been successfully operating its own space communications and broadcasting system KazSat, which currently consists of two satellites KazSat-2 and KazSat-3 and two space communications centres. Satellites are an integral and important element of the country’s infocommunications industry. They are used to broadcast national and international TV channels, provide communication channels in the corporate sector, eliminate the digital divide and connect the unconnected.

Recognising the importance of satellite technologies for further development of the country, Kazakhstan arranges, holds and participates in the events aimed at promoting the development of space industry and satellite communications. Kazhkstan’s representatives closely cooperate with specialised international organisations, such as ITU, UNOOSA, GSOA, etc. With the aim of promoting equitable and mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of satellite communications, Intersputnik has also been actively engaging with regulators, government institutions, educational organisations and commercial companies in Kazakhstan to support regional satellite initiatives.

To support these initiatives, in February 2025, Intersputnik, together with the Telecommunications Committee of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with the support of the Radiocommunication Bureau of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the ITU Regional Office for the CIS, held a seminar in Almaty on the regulation of satellite radio frequencies.
