A set of agreements has been reached on promoting satellite technologies for the development of remote areas and building up human potential for the satellite communications industry, both in the APAC, as a whole, and in Indonesia, in particular. The annual APSAT conference (Asia Pacific Satellite Conference) has been held since 2000. It is organized by the Indonesia Satellite Association. Sessions and panel discussions included speakers from national Indonesian satellite operators (Telkom, BRI, BAKTI, PSN), representatives of the Ministry of Communications, the Space Agency and various specialized associations of Indonesia — telecommunications and space ones, as well as major local service providers (DTP). Foreign satellite operators (ABS, Apstar, ChinaSat, JSAT, SES, etc.) and ground equipment vendors took an active part in the conference.

At meetings with Intersputnik’s representatives, executives of Indonesian satcom industry— satellite operators, regulatory authorities and academic institutions — discussed the feasibility of implementing joint social and commercial projects to connect remote regions of the country, as well as to build up and strengthen human potential, arrange educational workshops and round tables to elaborate a joint strategy for the development of the satellite communications industry on emerging markets.
