The SatelliteS 2026 conference was attended by over 300 representatives of leading players in the Russian satellite services market — operators, service providers, regulators, software and service developers, end users and customers of satellite communications and broadcasting services. More than 30 leading industry experts spoke at the panels on hot topics in the development of the satellite industry.
As noted by Ms. Drozdova, currently there are no strict international regulations requiring space industry players to remove space debris or implement technologies to reduce it. And there are no specific laws governing space traffic. All documents adopted by international organisations are of a purely advisory nature. These recommendations become mandatory when implemented into national legislation. And today, as Ms. Drozdova noted, it is at the national level that real mechanisms of liability are being formed. Therefore, interaction and coordination of actions by various states to develop real rules and measures for preserving sustainable outer space are becoming extremely important. International cooperation plays a fundamental role in this matter.
Forum attendees were very interested in the program for developing industry human resources, implemented by Intersputnik in coordination with international and regional organisations for the benefit of Intersputnik’s Member States. In her brief presentation on this topic, Ms. Drozdova also highlighted the shortage of qualified personnel as one of the constraints on the development of modern satellite communications systems and the implementation of projects in various regions of the world. The growing role of artificial intelligence technologies in the satellite industry only exacerbates the problem, requiring a large number of experts in critical areas. Intersputnik’s activities to strengthen the human resource potential and support talented young professionals from Member States are aimed at solving this problem.
As an international organization, Intersputnik has always built its activities on the basis of open and equal cooperation with other players in the space industry. In a context of rapidly implementing cutting-edge innovations, a briskly changing market, and the growing importance of satellite communications technologies in people’s lives, constructive international cooperation is becoming a priority for the harmonious development of the industry in the interests of all humanity.
