At the Meeting, Intersputnik introduced a pledge that stressed the importance of regional initiatives in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Intersputnik also submitted an initiative developed jointly with ITU to build digital skills in the satellite communications industry. Intersputnik's pledge will be included in the agenda of WTDC-25 to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan from 17 to 28 November 2025.

On 24–25 April 2025, with the support of the Ministry of Digital Development and Innovative Technologies of the Kyrgyz Republic, ITU held a Regional Preparatory Meeting for WTDC-25 for the CIS Region in the city of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Intersputnik participated in this Meeting, since the region is of high importance for Organization: nine Intersputnik Member Countries are located there.

For some years now, Intersputnik has been implementing a programme of support for the satellite communications industry young professionals from Member Countries, thus promoting industry human capacity building to facilitate innovations adoption and adequately respond to the challenges of a rapidly changing industry market. The Organization also supports ITU initiatives aimed at developing youth potential. At the Regional Preparatory Meeting, Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director, ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau, awarded Intersputnik’s representative with a certificate of recognition of Intersputnik’s invaluable contribution to the support of the ITU Global Youth Summit held in March 2025. The Youth Summit is usually arranged shortly before WTDC as its integral part.

In addition, the Organization presented a project, prepared jointly with ITU, on building capacity in the ICT industry in general and the satellite communications industry in particular. The programme includes basic courses for employees and advanced training courses for professionals, tailored to the needs of the Member Countries. The proposal focuses on building industry capacity and digital skills in satellite communications and broadcasting technologies, along with increasing the number of qualified employees through training programmes. The project is aimed at improving the quality of satellite communications services.

The Intersputnik-ITU joint project was supported by the Regional Preparatory Meeting and was mentioned in the Meeting’s resulting documents as an example of synergy of education, technology, and international cooperation. Intersputnik and ITU will continue to work on the project, and its finalised version will be included in the WTDC-25 agenda. It is an important contribution of the Organization to the global development of digital ICT ecosystems and to the progress towards universal connectivity of the Earth's population.

In addition, the project of capacity building in the satellite communications industry also correlates with the following regional initiatives approved by the CIS region Meeting for WTDC-25:

  • “Deployment of new and emerging telecommunication/ICT systems and networks” in terms of satellite communication networks development.
  • “Education and skills in the field of telecommunications/ICT, including for people with disabilities and special needs” in terms of trainings and seminars.

Intersputnik has confirmed its role as a key player in the development of satellite technologies by offering an international project that combines educational, technical and international aspects. The project manifested Intersputnik’s understanding of the key industry development trends and the ability to implement various options for efficient cooperation with key global organisations. The CIS countries’ support of the project demonstrates the region’s willingness to actively contribute to building an inclusive digital future. Besides, Intersputnik is proud to have its initiative supported by ITU.
