The requirement to strengthen international cooperation is one of the main conditions for the effective and sustainable development of satellite communications market. This is constantly emphasised by both commercial players and various regulatory authorities (ITU, UN COPUOS, etc.). In the framework of implementing this strategy, Intersputnik, together with the Organization’s Signatory from Somalia – DalKom Somalia – took part in the AfricaCom 2024 exhibition and conference, held from 11 to 14 November 2024 in Cape Town (South Africa). The event was focusing on the introduction of digital technologies into the daily life of people, the development of communication links and networks, the use of artificial intelligence, etc.

Satellite communications play a vital role in connecting users across African continents. There is a strong imbalance there between coastal areas, where fibre-optic communication lines can be used, and inland, where infrastructure is much less developed. Governments and businesses in Africa are working to bridge the digital divide using all available technologies, including space communications. This policy is fully supported by international organizations such as UN, ITU and Intersputnik.

Intersputnik, being an international organization, has got extensive experience in implementing projects to connect remote regions of developing countries. The Organization has developed a number of solutions for technical and administrative support of national projects aimed at eliminating digital divide. Intersputnik's activities, including the work in cooperation with international partners and Signatories of the Organization, allow it to shape the trends in the development of the satellite communications industry and provide technical and radio spectrum support for the implementation of commercial, social and humanitarian projects.

At AfricaCom 2024 Intersputnik and Organization's Signatory – DalKom Somalia – presented hybrid solutions for data and video transmission adapted for use on the African continent. Intersputnik combined satellite fleet, geographically distributed network of satellite teleports and terrestrial fibre-optic network of DalKom Somalia make it possible to choose the best option for implementing the project and providing services in any region of Africa.

The 27th exhibition of AfricaCom clearly demonstrated the commitment of African countries to implement current innovations to improve the quality of life of their people. Intersputnik, recognising the mission of satellite technologies in this process, takes an active part in promoting digital services to the African continent for improving the quality of people’s life and eliminating digital inequality, as well as achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
